“Once you’ve negated everything and done away completely with all forms of existence, who can you turn to, laughing or crying, if not your own self ? Once you have witnessed the fall of the entire world, there is nothing left but for you to fall too.”
Cioran – On the Heights of Despair
I am so glad to see “strangers” reading and appreciating Cioran. I am romanian and I am almost done with Cioran’s volumes collection. I have 3-4 volumes left to buy 🙂
Have a nice day/night and new year!
Thank you for your comment. I am used to read Cioran in both English and French as I am bilingual and I think he is one of the most valuable Romanian writers along with Paul Celan. Happy new year to you as well !!
Thank you very much!
If you like Cioran, I think you might also like to check Petre Tutea and Constantin Noica out. They were friends with Cioran 🙂 especially Tutea, who served several years in prison during comunism. I know some french, but I wish I knew better, so I can read philosophy in french, in original….
Thank you for your suggestions…. I will try to get their books from the library before ordering them from Amazon… Please stay in touch. Thanks again.
You’re welcome! 🙂 I hope you’ll enjoy them.
I don’t know if the subtitles are very accurate, but this is very interesting to watch. A long-distance “dialogue” between Cioran and Tutea, two old friend 🙂
There are 5 parts of the “dialogue”
Thanks … I am going to watch them…
I watched the videos … What an amazing man Tutea… I made some researches about his life and story and there isn’t much available in English. I need to know and read more.
